As you can see, the common sections of the exams are as follows:

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English
  • Reasoning
  • General Awareness

Before you start preparation, make sure you know the pattern of the exams you are planning to take, in detail. You can be sure of one thing that the tests will check your fundamental knowledge itself. If you have prepared well for your 10+2 board exam, half your preparation would be done.

Sandeep Manudhane, Chairman, PT Education says, “Questions from QA/LR are based on functional aspects, so it is better that you muster those concepts long before you actually sit for the exam. It will make you faster compared to other candidates. It is also necessary to make prior preparation for the General English section. However, it is advisable to do business and general awareness section close to exam as these fields change continuously.”

Now we will share with you section wise preparation strategy.

Quantitative Aptitude

The Quantitative Aptitude topics include the fundamental areas which you have studied in your 10+2 level. The topics include the following:

  • Arithmetic
  • Geometry
  • Algebra
  • Mensuration
  • Number System
  • Series
  • Commercial math
  • Data Interpretation
  • Data Sufficiency

Arithmetic is the major component of the BBA entrance exams in the Quantitative sections. The areas of Arithmetic which you must prepare include Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio, Proportion, Time & Distance, Time & Work, Average, Simple & Compound Interest etc.

Arks Srinivas, CEO, VistaMind Education and Director, Vanguard Business School, Bangalore says, “Since the BBA aspirants have taken or preparing for their 10+2 board exams, it acts as a huge advantage for them since half of their preparation is already done. However, if they didn’t have Mathematics as a subject, then also there is nothing to worry. Practicing from the NCERT mathematics books with few other references such as RS Aggarwal would give them good revision. Higher Math part is not common in the BBA entrance exams so don’t worry about it. Brush up your Arithmetic skills such as HCF, LCM, Percentage, Profit & Loss etc.” He adds, “If Math is your weak area, don’t shy away from it, rather spend more time on building conceptual clarity then devoting time on practicing the questions.”

English

The English or Verbal Ability section will be a test of your basic English proficiency. If you have are well versed with English grammar and vocabulary, half your preparation will already be complete. The topics which are asked in the English section of the top BBA entrance exams are as follows:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar

The question types include Fill in the blanks, Phrase Replacement, Word Usage, Jumbled Sentences, Spellings to name a few.

Gautam Puri, Vice Chairman, Career Launcher mentions, “The types of questions asked in the English or Verbal Ability section of the top BBA entrance exams are much similar to the board exams, the difference lies in the fact that the entrance exams are multiple choice and objective whereas the board exam pattern is subjective.

Reasoning

The areas and topics which are asked in this section are as follows:

  • Logical and Mathematical Reasoning
  • Deductive Logic
  • Statement Assumption
  • Analogy
  • Visual Reasoning
  • Series
  • Data Interpretation
  • Arrangement

“Practice is the key to succeed in this section. Get few books on basic Logical and Analytical Reasoning or past years’ solved question papers to improve your reasoning skills,” mentions Puri.

General Awareness

The General Awareness questions generally give more weight on the business awareness area. The questions are a mix of current affairs and static GK. You can expect questions on current business and economic scenario in this section. The static GK topics can be listed as follows:

  • Politics
  • History Geography
  • Society
  • Art & Literature

The above mentioned topics are inclusive but not exhaustive. As there is no limited syllabus for the General Awareness section, there is no limit to your preparation. The more you keep yourself abreast with the current national and international happenings, better prepared you will be.

Vinayak Kudva, Head- PG India & Mumbai Region, IMS Learning says, “As General Awareness is a very vast area, it makes sense to follow the top stories as and when they happen. Start enhancing your general awareness full-time by reading newspapers and magazines such as Outlook and Outlook Business. While reading up on news making events, candidates should consider various aspects and arguments and use your own judgment to decide what your stand should be.”

Apart from the above mentioned sections, there are other are other sections such as Business Awareness, which is predominantly asked in DU JAT exam. Experts suggest reading business newspapers like The Economic Times and Business Standard and watch business news on television to imbibe good knowledge on the subject.

The general difficulty level of the BBA entrance exams is easy to moderate. Hence, you need not worry about facing a tough paper. All you need to concentrate on is the speed and accuracy with which you attempt the paper, since most of the BBA entrance exams, barring SET BBA and BUMAT involve negative marking scheme, you must take care of the accuracy of your answers.

After knowing the sections

Once you get the hang of the separate sections, you should have a comprehensive study plan at place. After completing the basics, you should move to testing part. Start taking mock tests. Start with sectional tests and slowly move on to taking full level mock tests. This will help you manage time as well. “If you are enrolled with a coaching institute, make sure you take regular mock tests after completing your basic section wise preparation. Try to solve past five years question papers to get a hang of the question types. Devoting five to six hours per day will be good enough for your initial preparation after which you can decide your course of action and strategy based on your current preparation status.

The BBA entrance exams are scheduled to be held in April-June.
