Engineering Leads ‘Employable Talent’ Vs MBA In 2019; Check Top Hiring Sectors
The number of graduates, jobs and employable talent varies with respect to the different hiring sectors, industries, demographics and courses. According to the India Skills Report 2019, engineering (B.E and B.Tech) has grabbed the top spot with the most employable talent in 2019 for the fourth straight year as compared to other courses such as MBA, B.Sc, B.Pharma, MCA, B.Com, B.Arts and Polytechnic.
More than 3 lakh students from varied educational backgrounds from about 3200 educational institutions from 29 states and 7 union territories have taken part in the employability test — India Skills Report 2019 — conducted from July 2018 to November 2018. The total employability in India has grown to 47.38 per cent in 2019, witnessing an incremental change fo 2-3 percentage points as compared to last year. Notably, the total employable talent in 2014 was 33.95 per cent.
Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), software/hardware and manufacturing are the top three sectors which have hired the most in 2019. As per this year’s data, 57 per cent of the final year engineering graduates are employable registering a marginal increase of about 5 percentage points since last year, the report said, adding, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Information Technology (IT) courses has the highest employability rate with 60.63 per cent and 60.18 per cent, respectively, and civil engineering is lowest among all courses.
Electronics and Communication and Electrical Engineering have reported 12 per cent and 21 per cent rise in the employability over the last year, respectively and this is highest among all the courses while, on the other hand, the employability of MBA graduates dropped by 3 per cent as the exclusivity around MBA as a course has reduced, India Skills Report 2019 said further.
